Run Free Oscar
It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce our sweet Oscar died on August 13, 2007. He fell ill at the beginning of the summer but we were not able to pinpoint the problem until it was too late.
After a painful struggle with cancer,Oscar has left us.

Oscar's Diaries,
Life as a Retired Greyhound

Oscar was a greyhound who we adopted on June 23, 2003. He came to us when he was 22 months old, from a race track in Massachusetts. After running only four races, the owner decided that he was not a winner and allowed him to be put up for adoption.
Anwer to Chevy, which was Oscar's racing name, was the pup of a champion runner, Oswald Cobblespot, but not all of Oswald's offspring could duplicate his winning, so Answer to Chevy headed north to his new life.
Renamed Oscar, to join guinea pigs Ernie and Bert, Oscar settled in well to retired life. He may not have won any races, but it didn't take very long before he won over our hearts.
I was a frequent reader of Greytalk.com before and after Oscar moved in. The forum participants love to see photos of new dogs (and older ones) and to hear how they are adjusting to retired life.
So, I began Oscar's diaries. Every day, for the first month or two, I wrote a diary entry about retirement from Oscar's point of view. There were photos of him learning about his new life and the people from greytalk.com got to know him well.
In time, the diary entries slowed down, but they kept coming because every time there was a long gap between entries, I would get emails asking if everything was ok. Over the past three years, many people encouraged me to put the diary into a book. I finally decided to do so and this resulted in Oscar's Diaries, Life as a Retired Greyhound, Volume 1.
This book includes the first 30 or so diary entries. If there is enough demand, I will be publishing more volumes.
