My Writing

My style of writing is, for the most part, quite conversational - I write as I speak. I try to engage my readers into a conversation of sorts. Of course, if the work calls for technical or professional language, that's what I use. But, I do try to sneak in the every day conversation type of tone.

I've written mostly medical articles and such. I have done work for professional audiences, so we're talking about official and technical terms and I've written for the general public, which often involves translating those technical terms. You can find more about my work at my other website, medhealthwriter.com.

I am a registered nurse, which helps me with my writing. I've worked in many different areas in several different capacities, so it's given me a good view of how people learn and understand important messages. Along that vein, I keep a blog that has turned out to be very popular. It's about health and medical issues, with a little bit of me thrown in there now and then. It's called Marijke: nurse turned writer.

If you are interested in pain and pain management, from a healthcare consumer, patient, or professional interest, I have a blog called Help My Hurt, where we discuss all things pain-related.

I have a particular interest in the end-of-life stage and palliative care. For that reason, I began a web site devoted to information for the general public and, eventually, for professionals as well. That tab is just at the top.

I'm spreading out into other areas of writing because, although I do enjoy the health writing aspect, I also want to do more. In January 2008, I have an article coming out in a quilting magazine. I love to quilt, it's my pass time that I spend hours and hours on. I also have several articles and profiles in the works.

Finally, if you click on Oscar's tab above, you will see a book that I self-published through lulu.com.
